چکیده

Non-resonant (647.1 nm excitation wavelength) confocal Raman imaging has been used to map the spatial distributions of the DNA, protein and phospholipids in the single human cells at the different stages of the cell cycle. The protein distribution in the finally differentiated cells, peripheral blood lymphocytes, was obtained and compared to that in the active eye lens epithelial cells. The protein distributions in the cells with the different levels of metabolic activity had a completely different character [1]. The developed method was further applied to image directly (i.e. without prior labeling) the condensation of the nucleotides in the fragments of the apoptotic nucleus. The non-resonant Raman images of the DNA and protein distributions in the apoptotic HeLa cells were obtained and compared with the images of the control, exponentially growing HeLa cells [2].

Cytotoxic and Apoptotic Potential of Rheum turkestanicum  Janisch Root Extract on Human Cancer and Normal Cells

Rheum turkestanicum Janischew. (Polygonaceae) is a plant that grows in central Asia and in north-east of Iran. Traditionally, people use roots of R. turkestanicum as an anti-diabetic and anti-hypertensive as well as anticancer agent. In this study the cytotoxicity and apoptogenic properties of ethyl acetate (EtOAc), n-hexane and H2O extracts from Rheum turkestanicum Janischew. (Polygonaceae) ro...

Deep ultraviolet resonant Raman imaging of a cell.

We report the first demonstration of deep ultraviolet (DUV) Raman imaging of a cell. Nucleotide distributions in a HeLa cell were observed without any labeling at 257 nm excitation with resonant bands attributable to guanine and adenine. Obtained images represent DNA localization at nucleoli in the nucleus and RNA distribution in the cytoplasm. The presented technique extends the potential of R...

Morphine-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells: role of Bax and Bcl2

Introduction: It was reported that morphine could induce apoptosis in neurons. However, its specific mechanistic pathways remain elusive. The present study was undertaken to determine whether morphine could induce apoptosis in PC12 cells, a neuronal cell line, and the involvement of Bax and Bcl-2, as upstream factors of mitochondrial pathway. Methods: In an experimental study, the viabili...
